Live Fire

Adult Novel
Romantic Comedy

Sure, Andi Wright lost her Boston restaurant, her reputation, and all her money after her breakup with Charles (former business partner and hardcore narcissist). And yes, she’s unofficially living/hiding in a retirement community with her mom in Charleston, South Carolina, where she also works the Sunday brunch omelet station – an all-time low in her culinary career, but a fitting penance for her stupidity. It’s okay, though; Andi has a plan. In six months she’ll move to New York City, open a colleague’s restaurant, and rebuild her broken career.

That is, until she runs into Matéo, the tall, dark, handsome friend from the Culinary Institute. He’s always been a sexy, ladies’ man with a heart of gold, but now he’s a single dad with dreams of opening his own restaurant, and all he really wants is Andi by his side. The problem is, she can’t afford to put her career (or her heart) on the firing line again.

Blind Spot

Published in Hunger Mountain, The VCFA Journal of the Arts,

Masked/UnMasked. Volume, No.21. Spring 2017

Blind Spot is a realistic young adult short story about loss of innocence and realizing the thing you thought you wanted (Gunner, the sexy high school senior who’s a total player, but he likes you) turns out to be not what you wanted, at all. It explores the grey area between consent and regret and finding your voice.

"It’s a muggy June afternoon, you’re counting the hours till summer vacation. You stand behind the school, leaning against the rough stone wall, looking at those gathering mounds of towering clouds. Their dark underbellies look pregnant with rain.
You fan yourself with your hand. It’s hardly worth the effort but your hand is all you’ve got since you asked Becca to take your bag. You switch your weight to the other foot and begin to question if he’s really going to show. Maybe you’re playing the fool right now, waiting here for him. Gunner, one year older, wilder, hangs on the fringes — not part of any particular crowd."

Second Fire

Adult Novel
Romance

Lane Legere is a designer director at one of the nation’s biggest home décor retailers. Everything changes when the company reorganizes, and her new boss turns out to be Finn Larson – her former best friend and secret unrequited love interest (the guy she cut ties with so she could move on). They haven’t seen each other in ten years, but being forced to work with him turns out better than expected. Way better. Finn’s quickly becoming her favorite person again, except she’s already in a serious relationship with Greyson, and oh yeah, Finn’s her boss. All aspects of Lane’s carefully constructed life come under fire as she tries to summon the courage to chase her dreams in both love and work.

Lorelei

Young adult, magical realism short story based on the folktale of the same name. It was chosen as a Semifinalist in

Screen Craft’s 2019 Short Story Screenwriting contest.

How do you find redemption when you don’t deserve it? This is the question Kai, an emotionally wounded, twenty-year-old, wrestles with as he hikes the Lorelei in Germany. Until he meets Rena, an elusive, goddess-like young woman who enchants him with her song, charms him with her wit, and leads him down to the river bank of the Rhine. Will she end up being his salvation or his demise?

"She turned to face him, her feathery arms reaching for his neck, and she jumped up, wrapping her legs around his waist. Rena was light enough he could've climbed the Lorelei with her in his arms. She laughed out loud and then leaned in to kiss him again. He wasn’t sure how they went from strangers to this in an hour, but it felt he’d known her forever, like he wanted to know her for forever. And maybe this was what he needed. A respite from his respite."

Callie Flynn has fought hard for her dream of playing Division 1 college soccer. When she sustains her third concussion at the start of the season, and her recovery is painfully slow, it threatens to derail her soccer career (she's not likely to get a stellar financial package if she doesn't have stellar stats this year) along with everything else -- her boyfriend, her friends, the close bond with her dad, even graduating on time. As Callie fights to hold onto her D1 dream, she's forced to redefine who she is, both on and off the field. As it turns out, repairing the broken relationship with her sister offers support in ways Callie never expected... as does Tanner Chabot, the hot, new guy in half her classes.
